Barbara & Colin Calver
Barbara got her first dog
back in
1988, a German Shepherd called “Emma”. Having a large dog she soon
learned that she needed obedience lessons and enrolled at the local dog
club. Barbara soon fell in love with all things doggy. In 1989 she
trained to
become an instructor and the year after she did a much more in depth
instructor course. Barbara then became interested in obedience trials
and
Emma & Barbara soon gained their Companion Dog Excellence. They
branched
out into tracking and managed to also gain Tracking Dog
Excellence.
With her next dog “Chelsea” a Springer Spaniel, they
tried their hand at Agility and Jumping as well as obedience and won
many titles. Then they moved on to their real love, which is flyball.
Chelsea was never quick, but was well known for her reliability and
steadiness. They competed all over NSW & the ACT including the
Easter Show & Pet Expo. In 2003 along with several other
instructors who saw a need to start a dog-training club in the
Bankstown area, where obedience, agility & flyball are taught.
Colin always had a dog as a child, but his first dog in Australia was a German Shepherd called “Sally” back in 1989. “Sally”& Colin went off to obedience classes, as he did not agree with having a dog that is not well behaved. Colin did his first instructor course in 1989. Followed by another in l990. Over the years he has trained many German Shepherd’s and has gained many titles in the obedience ring and on the tracking field, on the agility and jumping courses. Although Colin's first love would have to be the German Shepherd Dog he has instructed handlers with all breeds of dogs and watched them enter the trial ring and win titles for themselves. With over 20 years experience Colin is able to contribute a great deal of knowledge to Bankstown School for Dogs.
